Annual flowering plants are those that flower once a year and if you would like to have those flowers again in your garden, then you are just going to have to plant it all over again the next year. This does sound like a lot of work as compared to perennials, which bloom year after year from the same bulb, however unlike the perennials, annuals bloom for a longer time, they are much brighter and exotic, and also less expensive. Most annuals are planted in spring and killed by frost/fall. Lets take a look at some exotic annuals, which you can easily plant in your garden.
Snow On The Mountain
This annual flowering plant grows to be 4 feet tall and has a bushy appearance. Like the poinsettia snow on the mountain does not have ‘flowers’ in the traditional sense but specialized leaves, which are margined in white, which make the plant very alluring. The actual flower is so small that it’s almost inconspicuous. It’s a very drought resistant plant but does much better when watered. However the pods on this plant have a habit of popping and scattering seeds all over the garden, this can be quiet a menace. Also wear gloves when working on the snow on the mountain, as the white sap is an allergen and can have severe reaction on your skin and eyes.
Love Lies Bleeding
Once you see this plant you will know why its called love lies bleeding. The entire motion of the blood red tassel like flowers is downwards. Also known as the tassel flower, it’s a definite showstopper. These annuals flowering plants are extremely easy to grow, sow the seeds in spring, water it a little bit and soon you’ll have 3 x 5 feet tall plant which spreads over two feet. If the size of the flower doesn’t strike you, the crimson red bordering on purple tassels definitely will. It can grow in different kinds of soil so long as it gets enough sunlight over a couple of days.
Mexican Sunflower
This annual flowering plant too is very easy to grow. The flowers are magnificent, they look very similar to the common sunflower except that they range from a deep orange to bright red color imparting to them a more majestic look. Mexican sunflowers cannot tolerate cold so wait 2-4 weeks after the last frost to plant these flowers. It grows well in partial shade but requires a lot of water.
Besides these, there are always the forget-me-nots, one of the most popular annual flowering plants, the hyacinth beans and the candytuft. Annual flowers should be planted close to each other, as they appear most spectacular in a group.
