Silk flowers while essentially being artificial flowers are generally placed in a category of their own. So the artificial flowers that we will be discussing here would be either the one's made of plastic or some other fiber. A lot of people feel that 'plastic' flowers tend to look tacky, while others still are of the view that if arranged properly they can add to the elegance of a place. The jury's still out on that one, however, the biggest factor that endears artificial flowers to people is the affordability factor. Significantly less expensive as compared to fresh flowers and silk flowers, artificial flowers have become a rather popular choice when it comes to decorating homes.
If you would like to create your own artificial flower arrangements, you would have to start out by purchasing the flowers, choose according to your own taste but keep in mind, the more realistic looking a flower the better it'll serve in an arrangement. Choose colors that will complement your décor. You could easily pick up these flowers at your local craft store and sometimes they are even available at Wal-mart. You would also require a floral sponge.
Arranging artificial flowers
Glue the sponge onto the container you intend to use to arrange your flowers. You may have to prune the foam as per the size of the container.
Cover the base with foliage to hide the foam. Use short pieces of greenery so that you still have plenty of space left for the flowers. Should you need to increase the stem of the flowers you can easily do that using a floral tape, which you can pick up from your local florist.
Now start sticking the flowers into the foam. Make sure you have a shape in mind, like the round or pyramid or triangle shape so that you know how to proceed. Do not attempt to stick in the flowers in a haphazard manner, spread them out evenly with the flowers sticking out at a right angle for the shape you have chosen. Try to keep the arrangement of flowers smooth and not so that there are whisks sticking out at odd angles.
You may want to fill in any empty spaces with 'baby's breath' or other such foliage to give your artificial flower arrangement a more elegant look.
A simple process, isn't it?? Should take you about 20 minutes to create an artificial flower arrangement, however if you dust it occasionally it will last you a lifetime!
