Fresh Flower Arrangements |
|
|
Despite all the popularity that silk flowers and artificial flowers have managed to garner over the last couple of years, fresh flowers continue to be the most popular of the lot. The reason being simple, they look alive and they are fragrant as compared to artificial flowers which tend to look a bit stiff and no amount of perfume spraying is going to lead them to emanate a fragrance. However what you need to know is fresh flower arrangements go beyond just merely placing them in a vase full of water. While creating bouquets is a rather complicated process you may want to follow these simple steps to create your own fresh flower arrangement for your home. |
|
You would require fresh flowers, whether you grow them yourself or you purchase them. The colors and the type would largely depend on your personal taste. You will also require floral foam, a floral cutter, and floral feed which are all available at your local florist.
Instructions For Arranging Fresh Flowers
- Soak the foam in water and place it the container you intend to use. Make sure that the foam is well soaked or else the flowers will get dehydrated.
- Before sticking the flowers into the foam, cut each one at the stem while holding it underwater. The reason for doing this is so that the stem can suck up water into the flower, instead of air. Arrange you flowers evenly in any shape you desire. Make sure the flowers are well spaced out so as to enhance their beauty.
- Now fill the container with water and run your hand underwater to see if there are any leaves still stuck on the stem below the water line. Make sure there are no leaves below the water line as this leads to bacterial formation which in turn kills the fragrance of the flower and emanates odor.
- Throw in some floral feed into the water filled container and place the container in a dry spot away from a direct source of heat or cold like the radiator or the air conditioner. Also make sure you place the container away from any electrical appliances.
- If possible you should place the container in the refrigerator for 4-5 hours, but do make sure your refrigerator is not turned up to its maximum potential. This leads to the flowers looking fresher and lasting longer.
Caring For Your Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers unlike artificial flowers need to be taken care of. With proper care you can make your flowers last up to 2 weeks. The flowers which have a longer vase life are carnations and tulips. Make sure that you change the water in the container every day and also throw in floral feed at least twice a day. You may want to cut the stems a bit after 4-5 days so as to slow the dehydration process of the flowers. Flowers while extremely beautiful need to be handled with love and care. The better you look after your flowers, the longer they will last.
