Summer is the best season of the year. And it’s a great season to prune those lovely English Gardens as well. The sun is out, the birds are chirping and people hum a pleasant tune as they walk by. Little wonder then that the most amount of work done in Private gardens is during the wonderful summer.
Summer is also the season when some flowers bloom better than others. The summer annuals and perennials would already be blooming and you cans start laying the ground for Spring flowers. However without much ado, lets take a look at some of the popular summer flowers-:
Popular Flowers For the Summer
Asiatic Lilies-: At the London Flower Show of 1862, the crowd was abuzz over a plant that had just been imported from Japan: the gold-band lily. Only the tiger lily, brought from China in 1804, had ever created as big a stir among English gardeners. Excitement about these lilies grew on both sides of the Atlantic, and eventually breeders created two great lines of hybrids: the Oriental and the Asiatic Lilies. Asiatic and Oriental hybrids are superstars of the summer garden. These hardy flowers grow very well in the summer and for this reason have become a favorite summer flower with gardeners all over the world.
Apple Blossom Rose-: Bright rose-pink double 'frilly' blooms over neat tufted foliage. This flower has the same growth habit as a regular rose but it enchants us with its ever-changing colors of soft pastel pink. Easy care, they also produce masses of blooms - over 3,000 flowers in the summer season on an established plant. This is perfect for those garden flowers but it is an annual so if you don’t want to invest in annuals, too bad! The perfect summer wedding flower.
Phlox-: Phlox is another favorite flower of summer, and 'Miss Lingard' is one of the best phlox hybrids. While lesser varieties of phlox start looking tattered and downright diseased in hot, humid summers, 'Miss Lingard' remains healthy. To keep your phlox happy, plant it in full sun in soil that is richly amended with compost, mulch to keep the soil moist, and divide the clumps every other fall
Mexican sunflower-: By late summer, many of the flowers that have colored the garden all season begin to look tired. Include the late-blooming Mexican sunflower to shift the garden from summer through autumn in grand style. The bold plants, available in many nurseries and home and garden centers, grow almost 6 feet tall. Fiery orange, 2-inch blossoms appear like the blazing sun low in the sky, seeming to illuminate everything around them.
